MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assisting the Library Management with library technology planning and projects implementation;Working closely with Deputy Librarian on the development and the evaluating of the Library Digitisation plan;Assisting the Library Management along with other members of the Library Staff with establishing, evaluating, and revising of library policies and procedures related to the use of ICTs in the Library;Working Closely with University’s ICT Department to resolve issues on library technology systems and improving access to academic and other quality information resources;Good understanding of the ODel and Education 5.0 concepts.Providing effective management and control of Library computer hardware and software installations and operations;Administering and maintaining every functional Research Repositories (Institutional Repository and E-Journal Portal) of electronic information in a greater visibility and accessibility format e.g., the DSpace, E-Journal Portal;Advising the management on the appropriate acquisition of computer hardware and software for the library;Ensuring that all computers in the library are always in good working conditions.Managing and efficient operating of the Integrated Library Management System (KOHA), DSpace, Ejournal Portal, RemoteXs, Turnitin and other electronic databases and software;Ensuring that all URL links are updated and accessible on the ILS, Knowledge base and the Catalogue;Administering the backing up of Library Management and Information Databases;Updating Library Web page content in liaison with the Library Management;Observing the Risk Management Policy and notifying your line manager of any identified risks;Serving as Faculty liaison (Faculty Librarian) to assigned faculties;Serving on Library, University, Consortia, and / or professional committees as elected or assigned;Remaining up to date on trending library issues and best practices related to digitization, and libraries;Attending Computer Committee meetings on behalf of / or with the University Librarian;Belongs to any professional organisation, preferably in the related field.Any other duties as assigned by your line manager.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Computer Science / Information Systems, or Bachelor of Science Honours in Library Science;A Master’s degree in the above areas will be an added advantage;Two (2) years library experience working in an automated library customer service environment;Extensive knowledge in working with Library Systems, preferably KOHA, the DSpace, RemoteXs, Turnitin, library IT infrastructure and facilitation of access to the libraries’ electronic resources;Familiarity with library metadata schema including MARC, RDA, as well as awareness of linked data models;Conversant with the general principles of web design, electronic online portals, open and proprietary databases, information storage and retrieval systems, text mining, data visualization, data collection software, cloud computing, and cataloging and metadata standards and best practices.Experience / familiarity with current and emerging technologies in digital library services and working on digital projects.Ability to work accurately under pressure and with very little supervision.Exceptional customer service, organizational skills, respectful of patron and staff needs, and works wells with other departments
