Key Responsibilities
- Teach Strategic Communication courses.
- Supervise postgraduate students in Strategic Communication.
- Teach and provide practical training in newswriting, reporting and online journalism.
- Supervise and mentor students in practical media production work.
- Support teaching and learning in converged media environments.
- Contribute to departmental media training and production activities.
- Provide first-line technical support to staff and students.
- Diagnose and resolve software-related issues.
- Install, configure and maintain software applications.
- Perform routine software maintenance.
- Conduct user training and prepare user guides.
- Maintain support documentation.
- Support data protection training initiatives.
- Set up and troubleshoot multimedia equipment.
- Support Moodle, Google Classroom and Edurole systems.
- Prepare and maintain Radio, TV broadcasting and livestreaming equipment.
- Supervise and train Technical Assistants.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Journalism, Strategic Communication, Public Relations, or a related field with a minimum classification of 2.1.
- Master of Science Degree in Strategic Communication or a related field with a Merit or better.
- Preference will be given to candidates holding a PhD in any of the above disciplines.
- Professional experience in Strategic Communication.
- At least one publication in a peer-reviewed journal or book chapter will be an added advantage.
- Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Journalism and Media Studies (or equivalent) with a minimum classification of 2.1.
- At least three (3) years of post-qualification practical newsroom experience.
- The following will be an added advantage: Master’s Degree in Journalism and Media Studies.
- Relevant industry certifications.
- Demonstrable proficiency in digital and multimedia journalism.
- Bachelor’s Degree (Lower Second Class [2.2] or better) in Information Technology, Computer Science, or Electronic Engineering.
- At least three (3) years’ post-qualification experience.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Experience in a broadcasting environment at producer level or above and/or practical competence in: Adobe Creative Suite, Audacity, DaVinci Resolve, Livestreaming software
