Key Responsibilities

  • Formulate, develop and implement a business plan for the effective and efficient functioning of the radio station.
  • Implement effective quality marketing and programming strategies based on research of the target audience.
  • Manage the finances of the radio station, which include identifying, exploring and establishing alternative revenue streams and managing the radio station’s budget.
  • Grow the listenership of the radio station.
  • Grow the brand of the radio station.
  • Ensure compliance to corporate governance principles and adherence to LSU policies and procedures.
  • Do research in order to ensure informed decision making and innovation.
  • Ensure quality technology and provide advice on the support of facilities in order to continually improve the efficiency, effectiveness and quality of radio processes.
  • Be available 24/7 to address emergencies.
  • Managing LSU Campus Radio staff including, hiring staff, staff development, and managing the day-to-day performance of the team, which includes but is not limited to establishing goals, managing performance issues and continually motivating the team.
  • Developing and overseeing the execution of the yearly LSU Campus Radio sales and marketing strategy plan.
  • Develop and oversee the programming and imaging of LSU Campus Radio.
  • Ensure unique news and sports coverage.
  • Working in concert with the leadership team to find new and compelling ways to showcase the individual faculties and the University itself externally and internally.
  • Managing relationships with advertising agencies, clients and media buyers.
  • Lead initiatives/projects that require a higher level of communications expertise.
  • Oversee the quality of LSU Campus Radio in all aspects.
  • Ensure alignment with University Strategy.
  • Manage any reputational risks associated with LSU Campus Radio.
  • Ability to represent the LSU Campus Radio in multiple forums.
  • Demonstrate knowledge on implementation of Education 5.0 at LSU Campus Radio.

Requirements

  • Applicants must possess a Masters Degree in Media, Journalism and/or Communication or an equivalent qualification.
  • Applicants should hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Media, Journalism and/or Communication or its equivalent.
  • The successful candidate must have at least four (4) years’ post-qualification relevant working experience, preferably within a university, higher education institution, media house, broadcasting, or campus radio environment.
  • Applicants should also possess management training and demonstrable leadership and administrative capabilities.
  • A PhD in Media, Journalism or a related field will be an added advantage.
  • Exposure to broadcasting environment or running a station for at least two (2) years would be a distinct advantage.
