Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain software applications to support the Department’s teaching, research, and administrative functions.
Develop web-based and mobile applications for academic, research, and community engagement projects.
Collaborate with academic staff and students on software development, innovation, and research projects.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to students undertaking software development projects.
Support lecturers and researchers by developing software solutions, prototypes, and research applications.
Maintain and enhance existing departmental software systems and websites.
Develop and integrate databases, APIs, and cloud-based solutions.
Assist in the development and management of e-learning platforms and other digital learning tools.
Ensure software quality through testing, debugging, documentation, and version control.
Implement software security best practices and maintain secure applications.
Participate in departmental consultancy, innovation, and software commercialization initiatives.
Keep abreast of emerging software development technologies, frameworks, and industry best practices.
Prepare technical documentation, user manuals, and system documentation.
Provide technical support and user training for developed applications.

Requirements

Must have a BSc Honours Degree in Computer Science or Computer Systems Engineering.
Professional certifications related to the field is an added advantage
At least one (1) year of relevant post qualification working experience would be an added advantage.
Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, C#, JavaScript, PHP, C++, or similar.
Experience with web and mobile application development.
Knowledge of software development methodologies (Agile, Scrum, DevOps).
Experience with databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or MongoDB.
Familiarity with version control systems such as Git.
Experience with cloud platforms and containerization technologies.
Knowledge of software testing, debugging, and quality assurance practices.
