Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain software applications to support the Department’s teaching, research, and administrative functions.
- Develop web-based and mobile applications for academic, research, and community engagement projects.
- Collaborate with academic staff and students on software development, innovation, and research projects.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to students undertaking software development projects.
- Support lecturers and researchers by developing software solutions, prototypes, and research applications.
- Maintain and enhance existing departmental software systems and websites.
- Develop and integrate databases, APIs, and cloud-based solutions.
- Assist in the development and management of e-learning platforms and other digital learning tools.
- Ensure software quality through testing, debugging, documentation, and version control.
- Implement software security best practices and maintain secure applications.
- Participate in departmental consultancy, innovation, and software commercialization initiatives.
- Keep abreast of emerging software development technologies, frameworks, and industry best practices.
- Prepare technical documentation, user manuals, and system documentation.
- Provide technical support and user training for developed applications.
Requirements
- Must have a BSc Honours Degree in Computer Science or Computer Systems Engineering.
- Professional certifications related to the field is an added advantage
- At least one (1) year of relevant post qualification working experience would be an added advantage.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, C#, JavaScript, PHP, C++, or similar.
- Experience with web and mobile application development.
- Knowledge of software development methodologies (Agile, Scrum, DevOps).
- Experience with databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or MongoDB.
- Familiarity with version control systems such as Git.
- Experience with cloud platforms and containerization technologies.
- Knowledge of software testing, debugging, and quality assurance practices.
