The role will provide financial management support across Zimbabwe, Senegal, and the Africa regional team, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance, reconciliations, payroll management, and effective financial controls.

Job Purpose

The Senior Finance Officer will be responsible for delivering effective financial management support across Zimbabwe, Senegal, and the Africa Directorate. The position will ensure accurate accounting records, timely month-end closures, compliance with financial regulations, payroll administration, and coordination with international finance teams on financial reporting, audits, and inter-country transactions. The role will report to the Projects Manager and work closely with the International Finance Manager within the International Finance Team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of financial transactions in line with Practical Action policies across Zimbabwe and Senegal.
  • Conduct monthly reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, including donor balances, bank accounts, payables, receivables, and intercompany transactions.
  • Ensure procurement, expenses, and financial activities comply with organisational policies.
  • Monitor tax and other statutory financial compliance requirements.
  • Support year-end financial reporting and audit processes with the international finance team.
  • Supporting budget preparation and monitoring expenditure against approved plans and forecasts.
  • Providing financial insights and updates to management teams in Zimbabwe and Senegal.
  • Supporting donor proposal budgets and financial reporting requirements.
  • Preparing monthly financial progress updates for budget holders.
  • Ensuring compliance with restricted funding requirements.
  • Payroll processing and maintaining accurate employee records.
  • Verification of payroll sheets and coordination of salary payments with banks.
  • Preparation and distribution of payslips.
  • Ensuring accurate PAYE submissions to relevant authorities.
  • Monitoring cash flow balances.
  • Coordinating requests for additional funds from the UK finance team when required.
  • Supporting effective financial planning with the Country Representative.
  • Facilitate statutory and donor audits.
  • Prepare and submit audit documentation and compliance records.

  • Providing training and induction support on Business Central and financial processes.
  • Supporting improvements to financial systems and internal controls.
