Reporting to the Registrar, the Security Officer’s primary objective is the security and safety of students, staff, visitors, assets and buildings of the University. The Officer will be responsible for creating a secure and supportive environment for the university community by managing the team that secures premises / monitors surveillance equipment / inspects buildings / monitors access / permits / deters unauthorized access and responds to incidents on campus
Desired Attributes:

Master’s Degree in Security and Risk Management, Police and Security Studies, or related Security Studies.

Bachelor’s Degree in Police Studies, Information Security, or relevant field.

Diploma/Certificate in Information Systems or Computers is an added advantage.

Up-to-date knowledge of emerging safety and security issues in universities at national, regional, and continental levels, including relevant technologies.

Minimum of 10 years’ experience in security institutions, with at least 5 years at a supervisory level.

Proven track record in developing and implementing security strategies in security or academic institutions.
-
No criminal record.

Strong understanding of Zimbabwean Criminal Law.

Knowledge and experience with radio communication, security cameras, and security alarms.

Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and senior management.

Excellent problem-solving skills to protect students, staff, assets, and visitors.

Strong analytical skills to assess and profile risks, and develop proactive security policies and community engagement strategies.

Holder of a clean Class 4 driver’s license.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Oversee daily administrative and strategic functions of the Security Unit.

Supervise and manage all security staff and their work activities.

Design and implement security policies, procedures, and protocols.

Conduct security risk assessments to prevent loss, fraud, injury, or legal violations.

Manage the security budget and ensure efficient delivery of security services.
-
Maintain law and order, protect life and property from harm or damage.
-
Control access to the University, allowing only authorized individuals on premises.

Respond to incidents and coordinate with internal/external stakeholders during emergencies.

Maintain strong relationships with law enforcement and regulatory bodies.

Lead security awareness programs and training for students and staff.

Conduct regular security audits and risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities.

Develop and maintain incident response plans for security breaches.
-
Stay informed on security trends, technologies, and regulatory changes for continuous improvement.
