We seek to recruit an experienced and qualified Rock Mechanics Engineer based at Freda Rebecca Gold Mine in Bindura.
About the Job
We are looking for an experienced Rock Mechanics Engineer to join our Technical Services team. This position reports to the Technical Services Manager.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Enforce Safety, Health, and Environmental standards in line with ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, ISO 9001:2015, and other relevant legal frameworks.
- Design and implement ground support systems to ensure the stability of excavations and tunnels.
- Conduct rock engineering assessments, audits, and inspections to identify and mitigate potential hazards and risks.
- Provide technical support and guidance to mining personnel on ground control practices and procedures.
- Analyse data from monitoring systems, including instrumentation and numerical modelling, to assess rock mass conditions and predict ground behaviour.
- Develop and implement rock engineering standards, policies, and procedures in compliance with industry regulations.
- Collaborate with mine planning, production, and geotechnical teams to optimize mining strategies and minimize rock-related incidents.
- Conduct geotechnical investigations, including rock mass characterization, discontinuity mapping, and laboratory testing.
- Provide training and mentorship to junior rock engineers and other mining staff on rock mechanics principles and practices.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Technical Services Manager.
About You
- BSc (Hons) in Mining Engineering or Geology.
- Master’s degree in Rock Engineering and/or Rock Engineering Certificate from the Minerals Council of South Africa.
- A minimum of five years’ experience, with at least two years practising Rock Engineering.
- Proficient in Map3D, Rock science, and/or other rock engineering software.
- Proficient user of the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
- Must be an exceptional team leader with a flexible attitude and sound work ethic.
