A local feminist organisation seeks the services of a researcher to conduct a Baseline Survey on the impact of COVID 19 on female students at tertiary institutions.
Background
The organisation intends to use the findings from the Baseline to build capacity, courage and foster resilience amongst female students in tertiary to challenge the gendered inequalities posed by the COVID 19 pandemic and beyond perpetuated by patriarchal tendencies engulfed by Zimbabwean society that deprive female students to reach their full potential in both private and public life. Further to that, there is no clear evidence on the effects of COVID 19 on the girl child hence it is prudent to conduct a baseline survey
Key responsibilities and timelines
The researcher shall conduct a desktop qualitative research with female students from targeted provinces – Manicaland, Matabeleland South, Midlands and Masvingo Provinces. He/She shall make a presentation of research findings for analysis, discussion and validation. The researcher will also produce a comprehensive research paper on the impacts of COVID-19 on female students in tertiary institutions with the goal of having an understanding and appreciation of the magnitude and negative impacts of COVID-19 on female students from targeted hotspot provinces. The research paper will also be shared as part of evidence for target advocacy to inform policy formulation and review. The task must be completed within 2 months.
Qualifications of the research consultant
A masters degree in social sciences or a first class degree in social sciences, social work, development studies or related field. A separate qualification in research will be an added advantage. At least 3-5 years experience working in the field of research within an NGO Sector. Have at least 3 published research papers. Demonstrated ability to conduct qualitative research, knowledge and experience in working with students and or young people, experience in working with young women and girls, feminist background, ability to use online methods of data collection, computer proficiency in Excel, MS word, PowerPoint and SPSS, demonstrated ability to uphold research ethical considerations, strong facilitation and presentation skills, ability to meet set deadlines.
