Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons for the following post:
The Chinese Researcher reports to the Research Fellow in charge of Foreign Languages.
The Chinese Researcher undertakes research and consultancy work in the Institute. The Researcher must take a lead in the mobilisation of funds for the Institute through consultancy work and research grants.
The Chinese Researcher, in consultation with the Research Fellow, plans, coordinates and implements research programmes and language consultancy work in accordance with the Institute strategy, policy and procedures and funder requirements
Duties And Responsibilities
- Reports to Research Fellow
- Carries out original, high-level individual and/or collaborative research with other team members
- Prepares and writes high-quality papers for submission to high-impact peer-reviewed journals
- Makes presentations at conferences or exhibits work at other appropriate events
- Offers tutorials to clients in his/her particular portfolio
- Participates in committee meetings with other researchers and support staff
- Actively seeks research funding as far as is reasonably possible
- Supervises Language Research Assistants, for example, in consultancy work or in research teams or projects;
- Carries out language consultancy work;
- Discharges any other job-related duties and responsibilities assigned by the Director.
Qualifications And Experience
The candidate must
- Be a holder of an Honours degree in Chinese
- Have a Master’s degree in teaching Chinese as a second language or any other relevant qualification. Possession of a Doctorate in the areas above will be an added advantage
- Have proven competence in translation, interpreting, editing, and computer-aided human language processing
