Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced individuals to fill a newly created post of Public Relations and Community Participation Officer in the Town Secretary’s Office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Handling all issues of planned publicity campaigns and public relations activities in liaison with Heads of various departments.
  • Promoting the good will and positive image of Council.
  • Rebranding Norton Town Council.
  • Managing the Council’s Communications, risk and opportunities with different clients and stakeholders.
  • Initiate and organize promotional events such as press conferences, open day exhibitions, tours and visits.
  • Being the spokesperson for Council including attending to complaints.
  • Developing a media relations strategy.
  • Designing, writing and producing presentations, press releases, articles, leaflets, in-house journals, reports publicity brochures and information for websites.
  • Arranging all consultative meetings and programming the Community engagement calendar.
  • Preparation of monthly and annual reports for the Town Secretary.
  • Managing Council websites and all social media interactions.

Requirements

  • A degree in Public Relations, Communication, Journalism, Media or related field.
  • A Master’s degree would be an added advantage.
  • Proficiency in at least three languages preferably English, Shona or Ndebele is added advantage.
  • At least three years post qualifying experience in Public Relations and community engagement.
