Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the following vacant position:
PROJECT ENGINEER
The incumbent shall be responsible for spearheading devolution funded projects in Council. This is a 12 months contract with a renewal possibility based on individual performance. The position reports to the Director of Engineering Services.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Civil and structural engineering design
- Selection of implementation models
- Supervise; Monitor and evaluate the performance of contractors
- Ensure that all the technical inputs and cost estimates of construction projects and budgets are accurate and provided in a timely manner
- Ensure that there are effective quality control measures in place for the implementation and monitoring of the projects and that the contractors comply with all the technical specifications and Council requirements
- Certify disbursement of funds for construction projects, monitor and submit financial status of projects to the Director of Engineering Services.
- Monitor contractor on the project site, measuring and assessing the work accomplishment as per the scope of work, Bi II of Quantities (BOQ) and signed contract.
- Coordinate the training of the end-users of the infrastructure and ensure simplified preventive user manuals are in place.
- Supervision and appraisal of subordinates.
- Ensure Safety, Health Standards and Regulations are compiled to on site
Qualifications & Person specifications
- BSc/B.Eng. (Hons.) degree in Civil/Civil & Water engineering from a recognised institution.
- A post graduate qualification in project management
- Must be registered with the Engineering Council of Zimbabwe
- Should have at least 3 years relevant experience in design, supervision and project management of civil and structural engineering projects.
- Experience in managing consultants and contractors
- Proven experience in preparation of Terms of Reference (TORs), tender documents and evaluation of the same
- Excellent report-writing and presentation
