Job Summary

OYE project overview
SNV is implementing the Opportunities for Youth Employment (OYE), a market-driven and private sector led project which aims to create youth (self) employment in Zimbabwe. The project is funded by SDC and SIDA and targets 10,000 youth aged 18-35 years of age (among whom at least 50% are young women) by creating “green” employment and enterprise opportunities in agriculture, energy and other emerging sectors. The project intends to sustainably increase youth employment and income by skills and capacity development of youth (push factor), linking these youth to market opportunities for employment and enterprise development (match factor), in growth sectors that have concrete potential for employment creation (pull factor). The project which started in May 2019 will run until December 2023 and is being implemented in two metropolitan provinces; Harare and Bulawayo and 10 districts; Mutasa, Mutare urban, Chikomba, Goromonzi, Mutoko, Murewa, Umzingwane, Matobo, Mangwe and Umguza.

Scope of work for the Project Assistant
Under the overall guidance and direct supervision of Project Coordinator, the Project Assistant provides project support services to youth between the ages of 18-35 in 6 wards of Mutasa district, ensuring high quality, accuracy and consistency of work. Project Assistant works in close collaboration with the operations and project staff in the office exchange information and support project delivery.

• Develops schedules and activity plans, ensures that program plans and activities incorporate the observed needs of youth
• Facilitate youth self-selection, screening and registration and baseline data collection of new youth as per OYE criteria and assist capturing all registered youth in the online system
• Promote localized interaction between the registered youth with identified employment opportunities to reassertion youth interest and trigger company interest (e.g. by inviting companies to pitch or through learning visits
• Facilitate Basic Life and Business skills training workshops to youth
• Assist in the formation of youth clusters/groups and selection of youth representatives per cluster.
• Work with the ward coordinators, youth representatives and relevant stakeholders to organize training needs of youth
• Training of Trainers of youth reps on technical skills development [Green jobs, energy, agriculture
• Work together with the Mentorship Lead to train youth group in effectively running the YSLAs integrate the introduction to the Saving and Lending concept in their groups
• Identification of individual youth development pathways and select youth with enterprises and those that are working towards establishing their own youth led enterprises and facilitate advanced business skills training
• Facilitate technical skills training by identified private sector companies and/or skills experts
• Linking youth with Markets, Employment
• Provide support to other project related activities that may be required from time to time such as donor field visits, video shoots, research etc.
• Produce reports as per schedule shared including on adhoc basis when required e, g donor/government reporting

About the Project Assistant?
The Project Assistant will be a staff member of the Anchor local service provider implementing OYE activities in the Mutasa District. Renumeration for the project assistant will be paid by the anchor Local Service Provider.

Qualifications And Experience
Qualifications and experience
• A recognized qualification in Development studies, Agribusiness and other related social sciences
• Must be residing in Mutasa District
• Expertise in areas such business plan development, financial management and financial literacy training, communications & marketing capacity development
• Expertise in Youth saving and lending groups establishment
• Excellent written and oral communication skills and presentation skills.
• Experience in the delivery of youth initiatives focusing on employment and enterprise development.
• Clean Class 4 driver’s license
