Frequently Asked Questions
What qualifications or certifications are typically required for a Programmes Manager – Fundraising and Partnerships role in Zimbabwe?
A degree in development studies, social sciences, business administration, or a related field is usually required, with a master’s degree adding a strong advantage. Employers in Zimbabwe also value certifications in project management (e.g., PMP, Prince2) or fundraising (e.g., CFRE), alongside proven experience in NGO resource mobilization and donor grant management.
What are the common day-to-day responsibilities of this role at an organisation like Musasa?
Daily work involves developing fundraising strategies, writing grant proposals, managing donor relationships, and ensuring compliance with reporting requirements. You will also coordinate partnership agreements with corporate sponsors, UN agencies, and local community organizations, while aligning fundraising activities with the organisation’s programme goals.
What should I expect regarding local work culture and expectations in Zimbabwe’s NGO sector?
Expect a collaborative but formal workplace where respect for hierarchy and institutional policies is important, and meetings often start with a moment of reflection or prayer. Deadlines are strict, especially for donor reporting, and you will need to be comfortable working with limited resources while maintaining high professional standards and strong community engagement.
What realistic career progression paths exist for a Programmes Manager in fundraising and partnerships in Zimbabwe?
From this role, you can advance to senior management positions such as Deputy Country Director, Country Director, or Director of Programmes within the same or a larger NGO. Alternatively, you could move into international organisations, UN agencies, or consulting firms specializing in development finance and partnership management.
What typical benefits should I expect beyond salary when working for Zimbabwean NGOs like Musasa?
Standard benefits include medical aid coverage, pension contributions, and annual leave (usually 15 to 20 days per year), plus occasional staff development opportunities. Since salaries vary by employer and funding availability, they often depend on the donor contract and your experience, so expect negotiation around these non-salary benefits if they are not fixed.
How do I apply for this role and what do Zimbabwean employers look for in a candidate?
Applications are usually submitted online via the organisation’s website or through email with a CV and cover letter, and you may need to complete a written assessment or attend a panel interview. Employers in Zimbabwe look for proven experience in grant writing and donor relations, knowledge of local gender and development issues, and demonstrable results in meeting fundraising targets.
