Background of ZITC
Zimbabwe Informal Traders Council (ZITC) was formed in 2014 as a civil society organization, registered as a Trust. It is an apex governing body that represents different associations in the informal sector, drawing membership from farmers, vendors, manufacturers, and retailers.
The institution exists as a growing national level voice that brings positive change to the informal sector, to address the sustainable developmental goals of eradicating poverty, hunger, and inequalities, while promoting gender equality, decent work, economic growth, innovation and provision of good infrastructure for the members. ZITC achieves its mandate through capacity building of its members in the areas of organizational development, compliance to various statutes and legal instruments relating to their businesses and operational efficiency. We achieve a positive impact by enabling better livelihoods for individuals, families, households, and groups of people and their associations. It is the intention of ZITC to improve the leadership capacities of affiliate and non-affiliate organizations within the grey economy to promote widespread socio-economic development. ZITC works with public, private and non-governmental institutions, and has experience in working in multi-sector projects. Reporting to ZITC Board the Program Intern will have the following responsibilities.
Duties and responsibilities
- Design and develop programme strategies in the area of Women Empowerment and Informal Traders
- Design and formulate programme/ project proposals and initiatives.
Draft inputs to country strategy documents, briefs and other documents related to Women Empowerment and Informal Traders. - Organize Project Steering Committee, project proposal review and/or evaluation meetings, as needed.
- Manage technical assistance and capacity development to project/programme partners
- Manage the implementation of technical advice and guidance.
- Develop and implement technical tools and initiatives.
- Build and manage relationships with national partners to support implementation and expansion of the Women Empowerment programme respond to any potential problems.
- Identify capacity-building needs of members and coordinate technical assistance, mentoring, training and capacity development initiatives to members.
- Build partnerships and support in developing resource mobilization strategies efforts.
- Manage advocacy, knowledge building and communication efforts.
- Develop and review background documents, briefs and presentations related to women empowerment and informal trade.
Develop advocacy strategies. Identify best practices to guide programme improvement and strategy planning. Develop knowledge management strategies, products and methodologies on women empowerment and informal traders. - Develop and handle social media presence.

- Timely and quality programme design and inputs to ZITC
- Timely and quality of programme delivery in line with budget and work plans, and in line with all
- Operational rules and regulations, including security
- Timely and quality monitoring and evaluation of programmes
- Relations with partners and stakeholders
- Positive feedback from ZITC team
- Regular communication with other agencies and partners
- Quality of advocacy and communication initiatives

Required Education and certification:
Working towards a degree in human rights, gender/women’s studies, international development, Project Management or a related field is required
