Great Zimbabwe University, an equal opportunity employer, invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the following post that has arisen within the institution:
The Pro-Vice Chancellor (PVC) serves as a deputy to the Vice-Chancellor (VC). The incumbent reports to the VC on a day-to day, serves in the VC’s stead whenever requested, and further works in collaboration with other designated officers and key administration and academic leaders such as the Registrar, Bursar, Librarian and Deans.
The Duties and Responsibilities
The incumbent should be versatile to handle responsibilities at executive management level which, among others shall include;
• Driving and implementing Heritage Based Education 5.0 across all Schools, providing leadership in requisite curriculum and policy reforms and development;
• Providing entrepreneurial leadership for investment and development of businesses, industries, and related strategic partnerships, spinoffs, joint venturesand long-term income generating projects;
• Improve relevance and performance of the institution’s innovation hubs and industrial parks in terms of products and services that promote the local economy, rural industrialization, and national goals;
• Supervising quality assurance policies that lead to the development of patents and copyrights, and protection of Intellectual Property in the institution;
• Spearheading and supervising sound community¬based scholarship; knowledge development; as well as promotion of local teaching materials and modules, textbooks and industrial manuals.
• Mobilising financial, human and technological resources to support organisational goals;
• Working with other executive members of the University, School Deans and Directors to identify opportunities for industrialisation, business development and strategic partnership;
• Ensuring internal compliance with national and international quality standards in manufacturing, marketing and administrative processes; and
• Setting up business management systems that comply with best practice in procurement, processing, marketing and distribution value chains.
Qualifications and Experience
The applicant should be an accomplished scholar and an accomplished administrator. The qualifications, competencies, credentials and experience required for the ideal candidate include:
• A Full Professor whose performance has been assessed as Satisfactory in all the five elements of Heritage Based 5.0: Teaching; Research, Community Service, Innovation, and Industrialization; as well as rated Outstanding in Research and Outstanding in at least one other in relation to promotion of modernization and industrialization.
• A proven administrator, manager and leader of institutions that manage scholars, researchers, consultants, and developers in relevant knowledge¬based and knowledge-driven industries.
• University administration experience at departmental and faculty levels, as well as servicing and/or chairing academic governance committees of Senate, Management, and Council (or Board equivalent).
• High IQ as well as high EQ with experience and grasp of the authorizing environment that pertains in the VC’s Office.
• Substantial experience in strategic academic planning, policy development, budgeting, and academic personnel administration in a higher education setting; and
• Experience and/or ability to establish collaborative partnerships across the board to foster business relationships.
