About
Zimbabwe Health Interventions (ZHI) is a not-for-profit human development organisation which is registered as a Trust under the Zimbabwe Deeds Registries Act (Chapter 20:05). ZHI’s mission is to develop and deliver innovative and sustainable high impact integrated health interventions with local communities while working with and strengthening existing institutions.
The Determined, Resilient, Empowered, AIDS-free, Mentored, and Safe women (DREAMS) Program aims to prevent new HIV infections and reduce vulnerability among OVC, OVC caregivers and Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) in Zimbabwe. The DREAMS program is being implemented in priority high HIV burden districts in Zimbabwe. ZHI’s primary role is to deliver a comprehensive curriculum on HIV prevention, gender norms and social asset building targeted at AGYW in school, out of school and their sexual partners at community level. ZHI’s core thrust in the DREAMS Program is to keep girls and young women HIV Free through supporting them to; Stay in school; Prevent early pregnancies; Prevent sexual violence; Access Post violence care; Reduce child marriage. DREAMS provides a comprehensive, multi-sectoral package of core interventions to address key factors that make girls and young women particularly vulnerable to HIV. These include structural factors, such as gender-based violence, exclusion from economic opportunities, and a lack of access to secondary school. DREAMS layers multiple interventions at once so that AGYW are surrounded with critical support to keep them safe from HIV and other risks.
Basic Function
The Prevention Services Ambassador will work under the technical guidance and supervision of the District Program Coordinator (DPC) and will be responsible for supporting prevention and outreach services aimed at decreasing myths about seeking help, empowering, and motivating other AGYW to make healthy life changes, providing information and raise awareness on HIV and gender-based violence (GBV) prevention and response among other important facets affecting AGYW. S/he will support the delivery of HIV and GBV prevention services for the RISE program, provide technical support and monitoring to ensure that the HIV and GBV prevention services scope of work for the program is fully implemented and to the highest possible degree of quality. S/he will also provide mentorship to DREAMS Ambassadors and facilitate their meaningful involvement in the project.
Job Description
Work with the DPC and other program technical team to design a structured approach to provision of HIV prevention services tailored to meet the needs of various AGYW sub-populations and address vulnerability amongst them; Coordinate and facilitate delivery of HIV prevention evidence-based intervention (EBI) curriculum sessions and services to the AGYW in the natural settings; Ensure that all AGYW recruited and enrolled into the DREAMS RISE program within the district receive and complete the primary prevention packages within 12 weeks of enrolment; Provide support in creating and strengthening community demand creation and referral networks between facility and community ensuring there is seamless implementation of HIV and GBV prevention activities targeting AGYW; Build capacity and provide technical assistance to community cadres and DREAMS Ambassadors to deliver comprehensive HIV and GBV prevention services through on-job-training and mentorship; Provide mentorship to DREAMS Ambassadors and facilitate their meaningful involvement in the DREAMS RISE program; Work with the DREAMS RISE program team, especially the DPC and district-based/field technical staff to develop community engagement strategies to guide implementation; Work with AGYW to document their needs/concerns and raise these to relevant stakeholders at community and district levels; Jointly plan/develop and participate in site preparation for supportive supervision and SIMS assessments and ensure recommendations are aptly implemented to improve service delivery; Follow up weekly DREAMS primary package outputs per district and per community cadre and ensure targets allocated to each community cadre/district are achieved; Working with the SIE team, ensure that the DREAMS primary prevention data (enrolment and session completion) targets are reported weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annually in accordance with program and donor reporting guidelines; Facilitate monthly feedback and update meetings with community cadres to review program progress, provide programmatic updates and feedback; Participate in activities under other program technical areas as will be assigned by the supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Must have a proven track record of being able to work in a team
Strong facilitation and training skills
Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with strict timelines
Ability to quickly adapt to new program changes
Ability to develop detailed workplans to guide activity implementation
Ability to work with district stakeholders in a rural setting
Strong supervision and mentorship skills
Proficiency in MS Office applications (i.e., MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel etc.).
Qualifications And Experience
Exposure and at least 1 year experience as a community-based Facilitator for DREAMS-RISE Project from any of the DREAMS Districts is a must
A minimum of 5 Ordinary level Passes
Experience in implementing PEPFAR HIV prevention evidence-based interventions (EBI) curriculum at community level
Experience working with diverse partners such as the MOHCC/GOZ, and local implementing partners is desirable
Experience in community mobilization and engagement
Must be fluent in English (both written and spoken) as well as local language(s)
Experience in USAID funded programs is an added advantage
