Reports To: Chief Technician
Station: Waterfalls Incubation Centre
Key Responsibilities
- Configure and set up injection moulding, extrusion, or other plastics machinery according to specifications and production requirements. Adjust machine parameters, such as temperature, pressure, and speed, to optimize production processes.
- Load raw materials, such as pellets or sheets of plastic, into machines and ensure proper material flow during processing. Manage inventory of raw materials, ensuring an adequate supply for ongoing production.
- Safely operate plastic blow, injection and extrusion machines in accordance with operational procedures and safety protocols.
- Oversee the operation of plastic manufacturing machines, ensuring consistent production of high-quality products. Monitor production runs to detect any abnormalities and make adjustments as necessary.
- Conduct inspections of finished products to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications. Perform tests and measurements on products, checking for dimensions, weight, and other quality indicators.
- Identify problems with machinery or production processes, troubleshooting issues to minimize downtime. Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as cleaning and lubricating machines, and report any significant malfunctions to supervisors.
- Maintain detailed production logs, documenting output, machine performance, and any issues encountered during operations. Report on production metrics and quality analysis to supervisors for continuous improvement.
- Follow safety protocols and guidelines regarding the operation of machinery and handling of materials. Utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) as required to ensure a safe working environment.
- Work closely with engineering, quality assurance, and other departments to resolve issues and implement best practices. Collaborate with colleagues to support production goals and maintain a cohesive team environment.
- Participate in training and development programs to enhance skills and knowledge of new plastics technologies and processes. Contribute to process improvement initiatives aimed at increasing efficiency and reducing waste in production.
- Stay updated on advancements in polymer and plastics technology, adopting new techniques and practices as appropriate. Experiment with new materials and production methods to enhance product functionality and quality.
- Conduct training on new technologies and facilitate practical tests.
- Supervise Technical Assistant.
Requirements
- Technician Diploma/ NC/ HND or Equivalent in Polymer/Plastics and Rubber Technology.
- At least one (1) year of post-qualification experience in the relevant field.
- Proficient in operating and maintaining various plastics processing machinery.
- Strong focus on quality control and adherence to specifications.
- Capability to diagnose and resolve operational issues efficiently.
- Ability to handle physically demanding tasks associated with machine operation and material handling.
- Effective communication skills for collaborating with team members and reporting to supervisors.
