MASCA invites applications from suitably qualified, experienced, and motivated individuals for the position of Managing Pharmacist. The successful candidate will provide expert advice to the Drugs Department on drug pricing queries and will be responsible for adjudicating drug claims. Purpose of the Position This position serves as the designated supervising pharmacist for the pharmacy premises, fulfilling the requirement for ‘continuous personal supervision’ as stipulated by Section 55 of the Medicines and Allied Substances Control Act [Chapter 15:03]. As such, the incumbent holds ultimate professional, legal, and ethical responsibility for all pharmaceutical services and operations. In addition to this the incumbent will prepare budgets and run the pharmacy in a profitable and efficient manner.
Key Responsibilities
- Dispense prescription and non-prescription medicines in accordance with professional standards and legal requirements.
- Review prescriptions to ensure accuracy, appropriateness, and patient safety.
- Provide professional advice to patients, healthcare providers, and internal stakeholders on the correct use of medicines.
- Ensure compliance with the Medicines and Allied Substances Control Act and other applicable legislation.
- Maintain proper control, storage, and accountability of pharmaceutical stock, including controlled medicines.
- Hiring, training, and evaluating pharmacy staff.
- Managing budgets and financial aspects of the pharmacy.
- Participate in quality assurance processes, audits, and reporting requirements.
- Ensure accurate documentation and record-keeping of pharmaceutical transactions.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of pharmaceutical policies, procedures, and standards.
- Promote rational drug use and support clinical governance initiatives.
- Uphold ethical standards and confidentiality at all times.
- Leverages a strong understanding of financial performance and budgeting to make informed operational and strategic decisions, driving profitability while maintaining high standards of patient care.
Requirements
- A recognised Degree in Pharmacy.
- Current registration and a valid practising certificate from the Pharmacists Council of Zimbabwe (PCZ).
- A minimum of 5-7 years of post-qualification experience, with at least 3 years in a pharmacy management or supervisory role with demonstrated profit and loss responsibility.
- Proven experience in business planning, financial management, and staff leadership.
- An MBA or other business management qualification is a significant advantage.
- In-depth knowledge of Zimbabwean pharmaceutical legislation and regulatory requirements
