Frequently Asked Questions

What qualifications or education do I need to become a Partnerships Assistant at Junior Achievement Zimbabwe?

Most employers in Zimbabwe require a minimum of a Diploma in Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field, though a Bachelor's degree is increasingly preferred. Relevant certifications in fundraising, stakeholder management, or project coordination from institutions like IMM or local universities can strengthen your application. Prior experience in sales, NGO work, or community engagement is often valued even at entry level.

What are the typical day-to-day responsibilities of a Partnerships Assistant at JAZ?

You will likely support the partnerships team in identifying and engaging corporate sponsors, schools, and government stakeholders for Junior Achievement programmes. Daily tasks include drafting partnership proposals, maintaining donor databases, coordinating meetings, and preparing reports on funding pipelines. You may also assist in organising events and tracking deliverables with existing partners.

How does workplace culture and professional etiquette differ in Zimbabwean NGOs like JAZ?

Zimbabwean NGO workplaces typically value respect for hierarchy, punctuality, and relationship-building through formal and informal networking. Dress codes tend to be business casual, and proficiency in both English and Shona or Ndebele can be advantageous for local stakeholder engagement. Expect collaborative environments where flexibility and willingness to work occasional weekends during programme cycles are appreciated.

What career progression opportunities exist for someone starting as a Partnerships Assistant in Zimbabwe's development sector?

With strong performance, you can advance to Partnerships Officer, Manager, or Head of Resource Mobilisation within three to five years. Many professionals transition into programme management, corporate social responsibility roles, or consulting for international NGOs and donor agencies. Building expertise in grant writing and digital fundraising significantly improves mobility across Zimbabwe's NGO and private sectors.

What benefits are typically offered for full-time roles in Zimbabwean NGOs like JAZ?

Standard benefits usually include annual leave of 21–30 days, limited medical aid coverage, and participation in a pension scheme such as NSSA or a private fund. Some organisations provide transport or housing allowances, though these vary considerably by donor funding stability and organisational size. Always clarify benefit details during the interview process, as practices differ across the sector.

How should I apply for a Partnerships Assistant role, and what do Zimbabwean employers prioritise in applications?

Submit a tailored CV and cover letter via email or the specified application channel, highlighting measurable achievements in relationship management or fundraising rather than generic duties. Zimbabwean employers prioritise referees they can actually contact, demonstrated knowledge of the organisation's mission, and evidence of self-motivation given resource-constrained operating environments. Follow up politely after two weeks if you receive no response.
