The University of Zimbabwe-DFG study is an extension of the ongoing UZ-Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences Birth cohort study which enrolled pregnant women and have been following up the mother-infant dyads targeting to determine the burden of HIV, associated comorbidities and infant health in high density western suburbs. The UZ-DFG study intends to elucidate on the role of maternal HIV infection and antiretroviral therapy use on immune development and natural killer cellular metabolism among HIV exposed uninfected infants. The study is being funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (a German research foundation).

Job description

This position involves the implementation of the project on a part-time basis i.e recruiting participants from the on-going main study into the UZ-DFG sub-study and collection of all the required biological specimens.

Key tasks and responsibilities

To work in a team responsible for recruiting participants within the main University of Zimbabwe Birth cohort study to participate in this sub-study; To collect all the required study data and biological specimens from participants to ensure successful implementation of the research study; Administer and conduct quality control to ensure completeness and accuracy of data on all questionnaires; To follow up the study participants 6 months after enrolment; Prepare visit projections to track project progress and support efficient planning of activities throughout the project duration; To ensure that all procedures are done in compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) for clinical research; Provide weekly and monthly reports to the PI on the project progress.

The research nurse should possess knowledge of medical and scientific technology, have strong interpersonal and communication skills, the capacity to analyse and interpret data, coordination skills and ability to maintain confidentiality.

Eligibility

Valid Midwife practicing certificate and experienced in bleeding infants; Below 35 years of age and willing to learn the application of technology in research data collection; Ability to work under pressure as part of a team and/or as an individual; Research experience and a Good clinical practice certificate are an added advantage; A clean class 4 driver’s license will be an added advantage.
