Information for Development Trust (IDT) is a Harare-based non-profit organisation promoting access to information on public-private sector governance, transparency and accountability. IDT is currently implementing an investigative journalism project focusing on Zimbabwe.
The project seeks to help journalists produce evidence-based, high-impact investigative content focusing on topical economic, social, political, environmental issues as they particularly relate to accountability, transparency and governance. The project also aims to enhance the capacity of journalists and media houses to produce and publish such content in a gender-inclusive manner. IDT is calling for applications from interested journalists and investigative journalism mentors to participate in the project. There are six (6) positions for investigative journalists, and two (2) for mentors.
Criteria for Journalists
Successful applicants must meet the below conditions:
At least five years’ experience as a practising newsroom-based or freelance journalist; Minimum of two digital samples of published investigative products focusing on public-private sector wrongdoing that includes corruption, malfeasance and bad governance, in addition to non-muckraking in-depth and evidence-based work on such issues as the environment and agriculture, social protection, public health (with particular emphasis on Covid-19), food and shelter as well as service delivery, the economy, public budgets and aid use; Passion for evidence-based, in-depth investigative inquiry that focuses on wrongdoing and non-muckraking issues; Accreditation with the relevant statutory body; Availability for face-to-face, online and telephonic mentorship from any part of Zimbabwe; Track record of honesty and professionalism
As part of the selection process, applicants will be asked to pitch stories that will be assessed by a panel. Female journalists are encouraged to apply.
Criteria for Mentors
Successful applicants must meet the below conditions:
At least 10 years’ experience as a senior journalist; Proven investigative journalism mentoring and media training experience; Knowledge of modern storytelling techniques, including data journalism; Located in Zimbabwe
