JOB TITLE: Operations and Technical Manager
REPORTS TO: Managing Director
INTERACTS WITH: Operations General Managers, Quality Assurance, Human Resources and Finance
LOCATION: Harare, Mutare or farm based
OBJECTIVES
We aim for the continuing upgrading and development of our facilities to best in class across all our operations. This role drives the upgrading and expansion of our facilities for continuous improvement in the quality and service that we provide to our end customers.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Areas covered
1. Continuous improvement in all operational KPIs
2. Irrigation infrastructure and programs (pipelines, pumps, power sources, solar installations)
3. Irrigation management systems
4. Packhouses, pack lines
5. Cold storage and ripening facilities across all locations
6. Specialized equipment (eg. spraying, all measurement equipment and associated connectivity, forklifts, ventilation, harvest equipment and related)
7. All aspects of nutrition management
8. Pest, disease and herbicide control strategies, including biological and chemical control strategies, spray systems and their management.
Activities
1. Facilitating ground-up continuous improvement in performance in all the areas covered above
2. Planning and implementing of maintenance programs to eliminate breakdowns and defects
3. Plan, design, install and implement upgrades, expansions, and modifications in all areas
4. Definition and refinement of all technical aspects of management protocols and systems
5. Input into defining, and implementing operational management systems from a technical point of view
6. Procurement of specialized equipment and inputs, including defining specifications, negotiating supply contracts
7. Project manage all capital projects to completion

1. Improving customer service metrics
2. Improving quality measures of output
3. Improving operation performance metrics in all operations
4. Zero breakdown maintenance costs and reduced R&M costs
5. Projects completed on time and on budget
6. Energy costs per unit of production
Ideal candidate profile
· 3-10 years’ experience in the agricultural space
· Strong degree in agricultural, mechanical, or electrical engineering or a related area
· Strong interest in IT and technical driven solutions
· Excellent detail-oriented planning, organization, and analytical skills
· Excellent and demonstrated verbal and written communication skills
