Old Mutual Zimbabwe’s CABS division is seeking a proactive and analytical Operational Risk Officer to join their Risk & Compliance team. This role provides an exciting opportunity to contribute to the bank’s stability, strategic growth, and operational excellence. The successful candidate will play a critical role in safeguarding the bank’s capital and earnings by independently assessing, monitoring, and managing operational risks. Key Responsibilities
- Embedding a strong risk culture through awareness programmes and training initiatives that promote sound risk management practices across the institution.
- Monitoring and reporting compliance with operational risk policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and escalating breaches where necessary.
- Following up and validating the closure of audit issues, ensuring that corrective actions adequately address root causes.
- Conducting on‑site risk assessments, evaluating control effectiveness and identifying improvement areas.
- Analysing key operational risk indicators (KRIs) and preparing insightful monthly reports.
- Assessing the effectiveness of Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Plans (BCP & DRP) and overall operational risk processes.
- Compiling operational risk reports and documenting internal risk loss events for management oversight.
- Advising business units on developing risk profiles, capturing risk events, and monitoring KRIs.
- Reviewing risk assessments for new business initiatives, ensuring internal controls and risk mitigation strategies are fit for purpose.
- Monitoring control environments and tracking audit action resolutions.
- Promoting awareness and understanding of risk policies across the organization.
- Reviewing risk assessment submissions and ensuring quality and accuracy.
- Coordinating risk reporting and escalation of key risks.
- Evaluating controls for new initiatives and projects.
Requirements
- Educational Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Quantitative Risk Management or similar qualification in Banking, Finance, Economics, or Risk Management.
- Experience: 4 to 5 years of relevant experience within the financial services sector, preferably in operational risk, compliance, or audit.
- Skills & Competencies: Attention to detail, strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and training abilities.
- Ability to influence stakeholders and work under pressure.
- Strong report-writing and organisational skills.
- Knowledge in Customer Service, Digital Literacy, Quantitative Risk, and Regulatory Compliance.
