Responsible for designing and troubleshooting computer and network infrastructure for the Council, ensuring that the networking and hardware requirements of the organisation are met.
Duties And Responsibilities
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
Provide Technical Directions
Offer first line Hardware support to all Council system users
Assist in organising and supervising computer help desk
Install and configure new hardware and software
Create and maintain up to date accurate network and hardware documentation
Provide technical direction on computer and network usage and offer comprehensive advice and instructions to departments and teams within the Council and also external stakeholders
Designing Computer Networks and Support
Assisting in designing, installing and implementing LANs, WAN/VPN for Council Regional Offices and Head Office
Manage and support LAN and WAN network devices
Implement approved network changes in accordance with applicable procedures.
Analyse and diagnose network problems
Recommend corrective solutions to be applied to network hardware or software
Liaising and coordinating with service providers
Ensure that the council has a secure, effective and reliable network
Troubleshoot System Failures
Performing troubleshooting to system failures and identify bottlenecks to ensure long term efficiency of networks and hardware
Install and Test Software
Testing and configuring software, maintain and repair hardware and peripheral devices
Implementing patches and software upgrades and maintenance checks with minimum disruptions to operations.
Back Up Data
Do regular backups as per set policies to make sure that minimal data is lost if a problem occurs.
Qualifications And Experience
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Degree in IT/ Computer Science or equivalent
Professional certification, CISCO/ VM would be an advantage
At least 3years’ experience as a network technician or relevant position
Good knowledge of LAN/WAN networks, TCP/IP protocols and network technologies
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES AND ATTRIBUTES
Have skills in the following computer software
Linux Operating System
Microsoft systems
IOS Systems
Should be techno- savvy
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
Excellent communication skills
Computer and software proficiency-should be able to bring out results with the use of computers
