Zimbabwe Research & Education Network (ZIMREN) has set out to be the leading catalyst for research, education and collaboration in Zimbabwe and with global partners by providing networks and other digital transformation infrastructure, systems and tools that meet the requirements of the research & education community. There are two vacancies, and applicants are invited for the following:
POSITION 1: NETWORK ENGINEER (1 Post)
The position is in the Technical Division, and reports to the Chief Technology Officer and will have network technicians as subordinates. The position cooperates with team mates in the Services, and Finance and Administration Divisions.
The job is responsible for the design, installation, configuration, monitoring, documenting and maintaining network infrastructure.
Duties And Responsibilities
Functions
• Establishing networking environment by designing system configurations, leading system installations, defining, documenting and enforcing system standards.
• Establishing network security and enforcing policies, defining and monitoring access
• Optimizing network performance by monitoring, diagnosing network problems and outages, and scheduling upgrades
• Reporting and documenting network operational status
• Integration of technologies from various cloud service providers
• Providing direct engineering support to customer institutions as required
• Researching and evaluating new education and research and collaboration technologies
• Assisting in coordinating capacity building programs for customer institutions
Qualifications And Experience
Qualifications & Experience
• A degree in information Technology from a recognised university, or equivalent
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a university, corporate or research environment
• Cisco Certified Network Associate or equivalent
• Project management qualification or certification is an added advantage
• Knowledge and experience with WANs, LANs, SANs, firewalls, routers, switches, proxy servers, DNS, programming languages
