An opportunity has arisen within a local human rights NGO working nationally to enhance access to justice and promote human rights. Applications from suitably qualified and

Position summary

The organisation seeks to recruit a Project Officer who will coordinate and oversee the implementation of project activities under a new access to justice program. The officer will
oversee the effective and efficient implementation of project activities. The project will be implemented in 20 Districts. He/ She will report directly to the Legal Programmes Manager while collaborating with teams across the 20 districts.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Monitoring the following aspects of Law at various courts i.e., Anti-Corruption, Family Law, Labour Law, Commercial law and Human rights. Conducting project activities
that seek to promote and improve access to justice in Zimbabwe.
• Work closely with the Programmes Manager in developing budgets and weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual work plans and reports.
• Provide technical support and ensure timely implementation of the project activities and ensure budgetary utilization within acceptable limits/range.
• Foster partnerships with the key stakeholders to promote collaboration and close working relationships.
• Lead the development of project documentation that is weekly bulletins, monthly reports, quarterly reports and annual reports.
• Work closely with M&E officer in monitoring and evaluating the project.

The Project Officer must have:

An LLB – Bachelor of Laws Honours Degree; A Masters in Law/Development Studies; registration with the Law Society of Zimbabwe; 5 years’
experience practicing law and at least 3 years’ experience working for an NGO; clean driver’s license essential; willing to travel regularly within Zimbabwe; language skills in Shona and Ndebele are an added advantage.

Essential

Three years’ experience in overseeing implementation of Access to Justice and human rights projects. Experience working with subgrantees and grassroots coalitions and networks. Highly flexible and organized, able to coordinate state and non-state actors for effective support and implementation of program intervention. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Experience in working with partnerships, including government departments, civil society, donors, and local community’s structures; Cross-cultural sensitivity, flexible worldview, and ability to work with a wide range of people from different backgrounds; Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report-writing and formal communication and presentation skills; Ability to take initiative, a team leader able to work with minimum
supervision.
