MECHANICAL FITTER X 1

The above vacancy exists for a qualified and experienced Class 1 Mechanical Fitter to join the Maintenance team based at Pickstone Peerless Gold Mine. The successful candidate will be, among others, required to take full charge of the following:

Duties and responsibilities

Maintenance & Repair:

• Perform routine and preventative maintenance on all underground and plant mechanical equipment, including crushers, conveyors, pumps, fans, and mobile machinery.
• Diagnose mechanical faults and perform corrective maintenance and repair work on a wide range of machinery and equipment systems.
• Fabricate, repair, and replace worn or damaged parts, utilizing skills in fitting, turning, welding, and machining as required.

Safety and Compliance:

• Adhere strictly to all company and statutory safety, health, environmental, and quality (SHEQ) regulations.
• Participate in risk assessments, daily safety talks, and pre-work inspections to ensure a safe working environment.
• Maintain a high standard of housekeeping in all work areas to prevent accidents and hazards.
• Ensure all lifting, cutting, and hot work procedures are followed and permits are obtained prior to commencing tasks.

Operational and Administrative:

• Execute maintenance tasks according to daily, weekly, and monthly schedules to ensure maximum equipment availability and minimal downtime.
• Collaborate with other maintenance disciplines (e.g., electricians, boilermakers) and operational teams to achieve production and maintenance targets.
• Accurately complete all maintenance documentation, including work orders, shift reports, and parts requisitions.
• Assist in the control and ordering of spare parts and consumables to ensure a sufficient supply for scheduled maintenance.

Supervision:

• Supervise, mentor, and provide day-to-day guidance to fitter assistants to ensure tasks are completed safely and efficiently.

The Person

2.1 5 Ordinary level including English, Maths and Science.
2.2 SW1 Certificate in Fitting and Turning or Machining. Apprenticeship training will be an added advantage.
2.3 Must have experience in heavy industry work and underground mine equipment – experience will be an added advantage.
2.4 Must be able to work under pressure.
2.5 A team player with good communication skills.
