GLOBAL HEALTH SUPPLY CHAIN-PROCUREMENT AND SUPPLY MANAGEMENT

Background: The Global Health Supply Chain – Procurement and Supply Management Project (GHSC-PSM), Zimbabwe Initiative is a USAID program implemented by Chemonics International Inc. The purpose of GHSC-PSM is to ensure uninterrupted supplies of health commodities in support of U.S. government-funded public health initiatives around the world.

 

Responsibilities: As Essential Medicines Logistics Officer, the employee is responsible for the following principal duties and responsibilities:

  • Participate in the review of a comprehensive essential medicines & medical supplies logistics management system and the information system component.
  • Use data from the appropriate information system to monitor stock status of all essential medicines & medical supplies to inform requirements forecasting
  • Participate in forecasting and quantification of essential medicines and medical supplies.
  • Use data from the appropriate information system to evaluate the functioning of the logistics management system
  • Coordinate the deployment and utilization of the electronic Logistics Management Information System in the Province
  • Receive logistics reports and commodity orders from facilities, review them (in relation to morbidity data), and generate resupply quantities to be packed and delivered to facilities by NatPharm.
  • Monitor the timeliness and completeness of deliveries of commodities to facilities and provide regular feed back to management.
  • Monitor the timeliness and accuracy of submission of essential medicines and medical supplies orders and reports and provide feedback to facilities.
  • Analyze LMIS data from districts and provide feedback as well as targeted monitoring and support to SDPs
  • Work closely with Provincial Health Executive and NatPharm to schedule essential medicines and medical supplies (including HIV/AIDS, TB, Reproductive Health, Malaria, Nutrition etc.) Commodity deliveries to service delivery points (SDPs) in the province
  • Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with the Provincial Medical Directorate, development partners and all PSM stakeholders in the province including government departments and parastatals.
  • Conduct regular field monitoring and logistics support visits to facilities in coordination with the Provincial Pharmacist to appraise on management of essential medicines and medical supplies.
  • Work closely with the NatPharm branch Manager to ensure equitable distribution of supplies to SDPs
  • Conduct periodic stock verification of essential medicines and medical supplies stored in distributors’ ware houses and at SDPs during field monitoring
  • Identify gaps and conduct logistics management training and other related training and workshops.
  • Participate in provincial and central level PSM coordination Meetings.
  • Any other duties as assigned

Qualifications required:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The qualifications listed below are representative of the required knowledge, skills, and/or abilities needed to perform the principal duties.

Qualifications required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy, logistics, public administration, or related field.
  • Four years progressively responsible experience in logistics management.
  • Very good reporting and writing skills in English.
  • Ability to conduct effective public presentations.
  • Demonstrated skills in representation, liaison and collaboration with government, private and non­governmental organizations.
  • Willingness to spend extended periods of time traveling in rural areas;

Demonstrated skills in word processing and use of spread sheets;

Knowledge of the Zimbabwe public health sector;

HIV & AIDS work experience is an added advantage;

Police clearance;

  • Good physical and mental health.
  1. DUTY STATION: This position is based in Gweru, Midlands, Zimbabwe, with possible travel to other cities in Zimbabwe.
