Job Summary
This is an exciting senior position within the University, providing real and long-term career
opportunities. The incumbent will report to the Production Manager and will oversee daily
operations of an expanding livestock portfolio that includes beef cattle, dairy cattle,
poultry and piggery.
Duties And Responsibilities
The successful candidate must be able to:-
● Coordinate and manage daily livestock operations.
● Develop a long term strategy for the growth of the livestock portfolio.
● Oversee livestock handling, animal health treatments, pen riding, cattle induction
and dispatch including coordination of drafting/weighing of cattle in accordance
with the company’s processes and specifications.
● Assist with the allocation of staff and resources to enable products to be
manufactured on time and within budget.
● Prepare periodic management reports of the section and submit to the Production
Manager.
● Prepare periodic budgets as may be required by the Section.
● Maintain compliance with the company’s policies, including but not limited to
Animal Welfare and Environmental obligations.
● Coordinate and implement the livestock operations plan within an industry leading
production system.
● Learn and adopt new technology or practices.
● Work unsupervised, problem solving skills and be self-motivated.
Qualifications And Experience
The position requires an individual with:-
● Relevant Diploma, Higher National Diploma or Degree in Agriculture or Livestock
Sciences.
● Strong commitment to animal welfare, health and nutrition.
● At least 5 years previous experience managing large numbers of livestock.
● Ability to manage, lead and motivate teams.
● Strong computer, written and excellent verbal communication skills.
● High levels of self-motivation, and attention to detail.
● Strong planning capabilities and initiative.
