Africa University is seeking to appoint a Library Technical Assistant. Reporting to the Technical Services Librarian, the Library Technical Assistant supports daily operations by accessioning library print and multimedia resources, tattle-tapping of all new physical resources, stamping new books, spine marking, shelving and allocating tasks to students on the Work Study Programme. Key Responsibilities
- Assists in managing the Library’s Accessions Register for new books
- Records new books in the Accessions register
- Provides security through tattle-tapping of all new physical resources
- Physical processing of all Library resources
- Spine marking and stamping of new Library physical resources
- Sorting and sensitising books for shelving
- Identifies and lists torn books for repair/binding
- Assists in creating bindery lists
- Allocates tasks to students on the Work Study Programme
- Participates in stocktakes and collects data for usage statistics
- Clears reading desks, shelving and shelf reading of library books
- Assists clients to locate library resources from bookshelves
- Performs any other duties as assigned
Requirements
- A National Certificate in Library and Information Science obtained from a recognized and accredited institution.
- A minimum of five (5) Ordinary Level passes, including English Language.
- Minimum of two (2) years working experience in an academic library
- Experience in using online public access catalogues (OPAC)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and related productivity tools)
- Experience in a higher education environment is an added advantage
