Key Responsibilities

• Reporting to the Assistant Director of Central Administration, the Legal Officer’s main responsibilities are:
• Provide legal advice to the Council and Management team
• Scrutinize Council Policies and proceedings for compliance with relevant legislation.
• Peruse and offer legal advice and/or interpretations of Contracts
• Review Contracts between the Council and third parties.
• Prepare summons and legal documents for debt recovery
• Facilitate drafting and propose amendments to Council By-Laws
• Monitor the developments, changes, and trends in policies and law
• Interpret enactments governing the operations of the Council.
• Undertake basic or extensive review of legal documents, instruments, or other material
• Participate in the Tender Evaluation Committee
• Represent Council in the Courts of law
• Attend to registration of title deeds for Council properties
• Performs any other duty within the scope of this job as assigned by superiors from time to time.

Requirements

• Applicants should hold a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Law/ Equivalent
• Registered Legal Practitioner
• 5 Ordinary Level Passes including English and Science
• At least 3 years’ post-qualification experience at the middle management level
• A citizen of Zimbabwe
• No record (Attach a valid police clearance)
• A clean Class 4 Drivers’ License
• A clean record of service within the local government sector, where applicable.
