Applicants are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the various vacant posts that have arisen in the Zimbabwe Independent Complaints Commission.

LEGAL OFFICER

GRADE: G3B
REPORTS TO: LEGAL MANAGER
STATION: HEAD OFFICE
ORGANIZATION: ZIMBABWE INDEPENDENT COMPLAINTS COMMISSION

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

a. Ensuring the Commission’s compliance with corporate governance best practices and legal and regulatory standards;
b. Researching and anticipating unique legal issues that could impact negatively or pose a legal risk to the Commission;
c. Referring files of matters requiring legal advice and litigation to external lawyers and providing appropriate instructions guided by the Commission;
d. Facilitating representation of the Commission in court on matters involving it in conjunction with external lawyers;
e. Preparing monthly, quarterly, annual, and other reports on all legal issues.
f. Drafting contracts and Memoranda of Understanding and any legal agreements entered into by and between the Commission and stakeholders;
g. Ensuring that all contracts entered into by the Commission are legally compliant.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES

a. Bachelor of Laws (Honours) Degree from an accredited tertiary institution;
b. A minimum of 3 years of experience as a legal professional;
c. Registration with the Law Society of Zimbabwe is a prerequisite;
d. Relevant Master’s degree is an added advantage;
e. Thorough knowledge of legislation being administered by, or impacting on the Commission’s work;
f. Excellent legal drafting, oral and written communication skills;
g. Ability and tenacity to work with Government and other stakeholders.
