POST A: Earth Sciences

The applicant must hold a PhD qualification in any one of Earth Sciences, Geophysics, Geology or
Hydrogeology. In addition, s/he must hold a BSc Degree in Geology and, preferably also, a Masters
Degree in Geology. Holders of the requisite geology degree qualifications who do not have a PhD
Degree may be considered for the post. A Master of Science Degree holder shall be expected to register
for studies leading to a PhD qualification in any one of the four fields. Proof of active research in the
form of published papers and at least two years of teaching experience at the tertiary level, will be a definite
advantage.

The successful applicant shall teach geology/geophysics modules on both the undergraduate Earth
Sciences and the MSc in Geophysics programmes. In addition, s/he may be required to teach modules
on basic physics in the BSc Degree in Applied Physics programme that is offered in the Department of
Applied Physics.

S/he shall participate in all the Education 5.0 pillars that require her/him to be actively engaged in
meaningful research that leads to development and economic sustainability. In doing so, s/he shall be
expected to attract funding for research and foster collaborative research within the Department, Faculty
and with other Institutions.

POST B: Medical Physics

The applicant must hold a PhD in Medical Physics and should have a BSc in Applied Physics or
equivalent. An applicant who holds a Master of Science Degree in Medical Physics may be considered
for the post. A Master of Science Degree holder will be expected to register for studies leading to a PhD
qualification. Clinical practice in a nuclear medicine or radiotherapy department of a medical facility
will be a distinct advantage. Proof of active research in the form of published papers, at least two years
of teaching experience and registration with a Health professional board will be a definite advantage.

The successful applicant is expected to be conversant with physics taught at the undergraduate level and
shall be expected to teach any of the modules at the undergraduate level in the BSc in Applied Physics
programme and also in the MSc Medical Physics programme. S/he shall be expected to participate in all
the Education 5.0 pillars. i.e. teaching, research, university service and community engagement,
industrialisation and innovation. The successful candidate is expected to attract funding for research and
foster collaborative research within the Department, Faculty and with other Institutions
