Chevron Tobacco Company is inviting applications from experienced and performance-driven professionals for the position of Leaf Contract Buyer. The successful candidate will be responsible for purchasing tobacco from contracted growers, in line with company purchasing standards and safeguarding value across the contracted crop. The core responsibility of this role is to purchase tobacco from contracted growers in accordance with company purchasing standards, quality requirements, volume targets, and approved pricing structures while ensuring compliance with grading and buying procedures. The role also requires technical capability in leaf appraisal, classification, and processing monitoring.

Key Responsibilities

  • Purchase tobacco from contracted growers in accordance with company purchasing standards and pricing structures.
  • Conduct accurate grading and on-floor classification of tobacco at contract buying points.
  • Ensure all purchased leaf meets required specifications and blend positioning requirements.
  • Conduct leaf appraisal to determine intrinsic quality and commercial value.
  • Monitor processing performance including lamina yield, stem ratios, scrap levels, and grade performance where required.
  • Perform classification of tobacco post-purchase where necessary to ensure correct grade positioning.
  • Conduct appraisal of packed stock and processed lamina to confirm conformity with quality and blend specifications.
  • Safeguard company commercial interests by preventing over-grading, under-grading, and quality deviations.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7 years’ proven experience in tobacco buying, grading, and leaf appraisal.
  • Strong practical knowledge of Zimbabwean tobacco grading standards and market dynamics.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess green leaf accurately and consistently.
  • Hands-on understanding of factory processing, lamina recovery, and grade performance.
  • Ability to appraise packed stock and processed lamina with precision.
  • High levels of integrity and accountability in commercial transactions.
  • Ability to work under pressure during peak buying seasons.
