Key Responsibilities

  • Carryout land audits and farm inspections.
  • Provide technical support during Commission programmes including land dispute resolution, land audits and inspections.
  • Prepare maps supporting investigation of land ownership and occupation disputes.
  • Compile historical and current mapping records for boundary verification.
  • Analyze spatial evidence relating to land disputes.
  • Participate in field verification exercises to establish land parcel boundaries.
  • Produce evidential maps for hearings, mediation and litigation.
  • Analyze aerial photographs, orthophotos and satellite imagery.
  • Detect land use and land cover changes.
  • Assist in monitoring environmental degradation affecting land resources.
  • Validate field information collected using ODK, KoBoToolbox or similar mobile platforms.
  • Conduct spatial analysis to support land administration and management decisions.
  • Support drone-based mapping and data acquisition where applicable.
  • Report to the Land Officer and the Legal Officer.

Requirements

  • National Diploma or Higher National Diploma in Cartography, Geomatics, Land Surveying, Geographic Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing or related field.
  • A relevant degree in any of the above is an advantage.
  • Professional Training Certificates in relevant fields is an added advantage.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and practical experience in the applications cartography, GIS or geospatial information management or equivalent fields.
  • Proficiency in GIS and mapping software such as ArcGIS, QGIS, AutoCAD Map or similar.
  • Knowledge of land surveying principles, cadastral surveying, geodesy, map projections and coordinate reference systems.
  • Ability to interpret survey diagrams, cadastral maps, topographic maps, aerial photographs and satellite imagery.
  • Knowledge of GPS/GNSS data collection and spatial data management.
  • Experience in map production, spatial analysis and database management.
  • Understanding of land administration, land information systems and land records.
  • Strong analytical, report writing, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to work outside office (e.g. on the farms) for extended periods.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Knowledge of relevant land and mapping legislation and standards.
  • Good problem-solving and organisational skills.
  • Valid driver’s license is an added advantage.
