Key responsibilities of the position include:

 

 

  • Designing and developing tailored LIMS software solutions for laboratories, including new features, modules, dashboards, and workflows based on evolving user needs.
  • Integrating LIMS with laboratory instruments (e.g., analyzers), databases (e.g., SQL/NoSQL), and external platforms such as DHIS2 or OpenHIE.
  • Performing comprehensive unit, integration, and user acceptance testing (UAT), as well as implementing robust quality assurance (QA) processes to ensure the system functions effectively and securely.
  • Managing electronic data capture, storage, and retrieval processes in line with industry standards, confidentiality protocols, and data integrity principles.
  • Performing routine and preventive system maintenance such as software updates, system backup, disaster recovery, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Maintaining comprehensive documentation of system architecture, configuration, user manuals, and development processes for training and future scaling.
  • Collaborating with laboratory personnel, IT teams, health informatics units, and external vendors to define detailed technical specifications and ensure user-centered design.
  • Supporting system capacity-building through user training, technical workshops, and continuous user support.
  • Participating in broader digital health innovation projects, contributing to system scaling, national integration efforts, and strategic planning sessions.
  • Ensuring compliance with cybersecurity protocols, data protection laws, and relevant health informatics standards (e.g., HL7, FHIR, LOINC).
  • Applicants must meet the following qualifications and requirements:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a closely related IT field. A Master’s degree is an added advantage.
  • Additional certifications such as Oracle Certified Associate, Java SE Programmer, or certifications in health informatics will be considered a strong asset.

 

 

Minimum experience and required skills:

 

 

At least three years of progressive experience in software systems development, application support, and maintenance in health or laboratory environments.

 

 

Demonstrated proficiency in:

 

 

  • Programming languages: Python, Java (Spring Boot), Angular, Flutter, AMQ
  • Version control and DevOps tools: Git, Docker, Jenkins
  • Health information standards and protocols: HL7, LOINC
  • Databases: SQL, NoSQL, ZODB
  • Frameworks and platforms: PLONE, Android mobile app development
  • Experience working with laboratory or medical device interfaces, APIs, and instrument data parsing is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with public health data systems and digital health enterprise architecture is an added advantage.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and systems thinking abilities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
