Position Overview
The Analyst will be responsible for analyzing market trends, qualifying incoming investment opportunities, and building the investment cost if any) for project proposals. He/she will a use variety of factors, including potential investment returns, current or future performance, and other metrics to determine how well the potential investee companies/projects are likely to perform under different scenarios and therefore to make initial recommendations about which ones should receive funding from the NVCCZ. By liaising directly with the start-up promoters, he/she will help the NVCCZ to identify the most impactful ventures and business ideas and will be responsible for assessing the business models and technological capabilities of existing ventures as well as future investments. The Investment Analyst will also assist the CEO in project appraisal.
Job Description
Project Analysis and Investment Appraisal -Analyzing financial statements and project proposals of potential investee companies to determine their financial creditworthiness and potential for growth.
Economic Research- Researching micro and macro-economic trends that could lead to new lucrative investment opportunities or emerging risks.
Participating in due diligence activities on prospective investments, including financial analysis, industry research, and management and key person interviews
Making initial recommendations on terms of investment transactions
Manage and monitor portfolio companies, providing support and advice as needed to help them grow and scale
Monitor macroeconomic trends and developments to identify changes that could impact the venture capital industry.
Stay up to date on the latest news and developments in the startup ecosystem
Network with entrepreneurs, investors, and other professionals in the venture capital community
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all investments made by the firm
Prepare periodic reports on the performance of the venture capital portfolio
Qualifications and Experience
A bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, statistics, risk management, economics, or business management. CFA Level 2 and higher or a second degree in mathematical or financial disciplines are an added advantage.
A minimum of 2 years of practical experiences, such as lower-level analyst positions and economic modeling in related industries is required.
Training in Corporate Finance and full or partial qualification as Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Chartered Accountant (CA), or Chartered Management Accountant ACCA) A certificate or Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA) is a distinctive advantage.
Ability to pay attention to detail and make sound judgment calls under time pressure. The investment analyst must be able to respond quickly with new recommendations when sudden market changes occur.
Being computer-savvy and having the ability to build advanced predictive models is a definite advantage, as much of the work is done on computers.
Good communication and presentation skills are not negotiable.
