VACANCY
The Management Committee (Board) of a well established occupational self-administered pension fund seeks to engage a dynamic, highly competent, suitably qualified and experienced independent expert board member in line with the provisions of the Pensions and Provident Funds Act (Chapter 24:32).
Key Responsibility Areas
In accordance with the above cited Act, the successful incumbent will assist the other board members in the execution of the following;
⦁ Directing, controlling and supervising the operations of the Fund in accordance with the pensions legislation and rules of the Fund.
⦁ Promoting the Fund’s effective management through the formulation of relevant policies and establishment of control systems to ensure the Fund complies with pension legislation.
⦁ Protecting the rights and benefits of the Fund’s members and beneficiaries and ensuring that adequate communication is made to the respective stakeholders.
⦁ Ensuring effective records management as well as the rules, operations and administration of the Fund’s compliance with pension legislation.
⦁ Taking all reasonable steps to ensure that contributions to the Fund are paid when they are due and invested appropriately.
⦁ Protecting the interests of the Fund’s members and beneficiaries in key events such as amalgamation, conversion of the Fund e.t.c.
⦁ Exercising care, due diligence and skill in the decision making process and acting honestly and in good faith to the best interests of the Fund.
⦁ Acting impartially towards members and beneficiaries and avoiding conflict of interest.
Qualifications and Experience
J At least 5 O’ Level passes with Grade C or better.
J At least a Diploma in Business or related field.
J Considering the current Board members’ skills & experience and the need for the Fund’s Board to have an appropriate diversity of skills and experience for managing the Fund, in line with the provisions of the Pensions and Provident Funds Act, preference will be given to applicants with skills, experience and academic & professional qualifications in the following areas;
⦁ Investment of Pension Fund Assets
⦁ Information Technology Management
⦁ Risk Management of Pension Funds
⦁ Actuarial field.
J Possession of a Certificate of Proficiency in Pension Scheme Trusteeship will be an added advantage.
J Board membership experience, coupled with proven excellent governance & board performance is a must, preferably within the financial services sector and pensions industry.
