Background
Nzeve Deaf Centre (PVO 22/2005), based in Sakubva, Mutare is an organisation of deaf and hearing people working towards the Deaf community being valued in an inclusive society. Nzeve is based in Mutare but works throughout Manicaland.
The job of Health Project Officer includes working closely with deaf people as colleagues, not just as beneficiaries, and requires a willingness to learn and be immersed in deaf culture. The successful candidate will work closely with Nzeve’s Deaf Health Officer. The Health Project officer reports to the Head of Programmes. Sign language ability is a big advantage but if the successful person does not know sign language already the opportunity to learn will be given. This position is a 2-year contract.
Nzeve is looking for a creative health professional to train parents, health workers and teachers of deaf children to discuss Sexual Reproductive Health Rights.
Responsibilities
The project health officer will: collect information, make relevant adapted learning materials, train parents, and deaf adults in their use; facilitate families to hold conversations on SRHR with their deaf children and youth by adapting participatory activities and materials; arrange and facilitate discussions between health workers and the Deaf community to design and implement more Deaf friendly services; work closely with established deaf staff to train deaf leaders, teachers, health workers and families of deaf children to ensure improved SRHR information, knowledge, and services for the Deaf community; ensure Nzeve staff are aware of changing health trends and include these in their programmes.
The successful individual must demonstrate the highest degree of integrity throughout all activities. The individual will work closely with the deaf health officer and deaf community leaders.
