Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for suitably qualified individuals in one of the Leading Seed Companies in Zimbabwe to fill in the following positions. The roles require energetic and dynamic individuals who have an in-depth understanding of the Agriculture Sector and appreciation of the operating environment.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Planning, directing and coordinating of departmental strategic business plans and budgets.
2. Overseeing overall seed business operations and ensure improvement towards achievement of the company’s strategic and operational targets.
3. Developing and implementing seed production plans for maize, wheat, soyabeans, sugar beans, sorghum, pearl millet, finger millet, cowpeas, sunflower, cotton, potatoes, forage crops, and any other additional crops.
4. Spearheading seed contract farming or own production and negotiation of seed production contracts with farmers.
5. Research and development strategies and plans which identify business opportunities and new project development.
6. Ensure seed processing plant availability and operational efficiency by adhering to plant maintenance schedule and quality standards.
7. Ensuring that seed crops and the harvested seed meet set quality standards in the fields, storage and on the market.
8. Communicating with all the relevant stakeholders and coordinating all relevant inputs to ensure production targets are achieved.
9. Review all weekly and monthly departmental reports for completeness and accuracy.

 

Qualifications And Experience

Our Ideal Candidate:
A Degree in Agriculture from a reputable institution majoring in Crop Production.
1. A Masters Degree in Strategic Management/ MBA/ MBL or equivalent is an added advantage.
2. At least 5 years’ experience at Management level in a similar environment.
3. Strong knowledge in Agronomy, Crop Breeding and Crop Protection (diseases, pests and weeds) especially maize, soyabeans, wheat, sorghum, millets, rice, dry beans, groundnuts, cowpeas, sunflower, potatoes, forage crops, etc.
4. Knowledge of the Seed Act and Seeds Certification Scheme Notice 2000.
5. Experience in seed production, seed processing, quality control and parent seed bulking.
6. Knowledge and experience in the OECD Seed Certification Scheme.
7. Knowledge and experience in the QMS International Standards.
8. Computer literacy (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Power Point, internet, online services).
