GROUP CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER (CEO) Reports To: Board Chairperson About the Position Harare Institute of Public Health (HIPH) invites applications from visionary, strategic and results-oriented leaders for the position of Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The successful candidate will provide overall strategic, financial and operational leadership for the Group and will be responsible for driving sustainable growth, strengthening corporate governance, enhancing organisational performance and building strong relationships with key stakeholders. Working closely with the Board of Directors, the CEO will champion innovation, operational excellence and long-term value creation while ensuring that all Group operations remain financially sustainable and compliant with applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing strategic leadership and direction to achieve the Group’s long-term vision and business objectives.
  • Developing, implementing and reviewing corporate strategies, policies and business plans in line with Board-approved priorities.
  • Advising the Board on strategic, governance, regulatory and risk management matters.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with Government, regulatory authorities, development partners, investors, clients and other strategic stakeholders.
  • Driving business growth through the identification of new market opportunities and strategic partnerships.
  • Overseeing the Group’s financial management, including budgeting, investment analysis, financial performance monitoring and resource allocation.
  • Evaluating investment opportunities and undertaking due diligence to support sustainable business expansion.
  • Monitoring operational performance across all business units and ensuring the achievement of agreed key performance indicators.
  • Leading organisational performance management systems to promote accountability, efficiency and continuous improvement.
  • Providing leadership in talent management, succession planning, staff development and the promotion of a high-performance organisational culture.
  • Ensuring compliance with corporate governance principles, organisational policies and statutory requirements.

Requirements

  • A recognised Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmaceuticals, Medicine, Business, Commercial Studies or another relevant discipline.
  • A Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Business Leadership (MBL) or an equivalent postgraduate qualification.
  • A PhD or Doctorate in Business Leadership, Pharmaceuticals or a related field will be an added advantage.
  • Between 10 and 15 years’ progressive executive management experience within a corporate environment.
  • At least five (5) years’ experience at senior executive level, such as Chief Executive Officer, Managing Director or an equivalent leadership position.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multiple business units or diversified organisational portfolios.
  • A proven record of developing and implementing successful corporate strategies that deliver sustainable growth.
  • Exceptional strategic leadership and decision-making ability.
  • Strong corporate governance and risk management expertise.
  • Excellent financial management and investment analysis skills.
  • Outstanding business development and commercial acumen.
