JOB DESCRIPTION
Our client, a subsidiary of a large mining group is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced General Manager to set up a greenfield farming operation in Zimbabwe, 150km south west of Harare.
FARM DESCRIPTION
The farm comprises of 11,000ha of land in total, with plans for 2,000ha to be under scheduled irrigation. The operation will be a pasture based farming operation of which one of the goals being; to milk at least 5000 cows and run at least 5000 beef cows by 2025. One of the key goals of the operation is to develop the operation into a profitable Beef and Dairy business using good farming practices to ensure long term sustainability and protection of the environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Managing the diversification activities.
- Financial management, production planning and maintenance of farm progress against budget parameters.
- Livestock reproduction cycles including oestrous and pregnancy.
- Pasture utilisation and management.
- Herd health and nutrition.
- Commercial beef management.
- Dairy management (Including milk quality).
- Ensuring all Government regulations concerning farm activities are complied with.
- Managing cash flow, developing and monitoring budgets.
QUALIFICATIONS/ EXPERIENCE
- A self-starter and intrinsically motivated individual.
- Agricultural Diploma/Degree advantageous.
- Traceable experience in livestock management.
- Computer literate.
- Minimum of 5 years working in a similar role.
