Environment Africa a member of the consortium led by CARE International Zimbabwe, which is implementing the TAKUNDA project in Buhera, Chivi, Mutare and Zaka Districts of Zimbabwe seeks to recruit four (4) Natural Resources Management and Disaster Risk Reduction Officers. The Takunda project seeks to empower women; create sustainable livelihoods; facilitate adoption of improved practices/technologies; improve governance and social accountability; and ultimately strengthen HH and community resilience. Job specifications
The primary responsibility of this position is strengthening household and community resilience through enhanced Local Disaster Risk Management Capacities of communities in the four TAKUNDA districts through improved natural resources management, disaster risk mitigation and Early Warning Systems. The post holder will implement the project with a strong focus on natural resource management and restoration within the USAID REG 216 guidelines. S/He will support capacity gaps assessment and strengthening of relevant departments within District and at local community level, lead environmental protection and restoration activities.
Key duties and responsibilities
Identifies current and emerging risk factors, their underlying causes and actions that could help reduce the impacts of future hazards; Produces a Disaster Risk Management and Natural Resources Management work plan and develops a DRM and NRM training plan; Lead and coordinate safeguard policy compliance for environment and provide assessment during project implementation; Lead in identifying and resolving environmental issues, particularly compliance risks for Community DRR and resilience projects; Identifies programming opportunities and challenges to strengthen and support communities build community resilience; Support District and local level process of reviewing, updating and implementing environmental bylaws; Provides technical backstopping on DRM and Resilience to consortium partners; Conducts DRM rapid assessments and collate data from primary and secondary sources of data; Conducts DRM coordination and review meetings with the CPC and other stakeholders; Prepares handouts and notes for workshops in collaboration with stakeholders; Participates in DRM & NRM coordination and collaboration platforms at district and consortia level; Promote Natural Resources Management and Climate Change awareness; Drafts and consolidates districts and consortia DRR and NRM narrative reports.
