VACANCY NOTICE

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced individuals to fill the following posts which have arisen in Zvimba Rural District Council.

Job Title: Firefighters (5 Posts)
Grade: Grade 3
Reports to: Fire fighter Equipment Operator
Contract: Fixed Term Contract for 20 years

Job Summary:

Firefighters respond to emergency situations, fight fires, rescue individuals, and provide medical assistance. They also perform maintenance tasks, participate in training exercises, and educate the public on fire safety.

Key Responsibilities:

• Respond to fire alarms, emergency calls, and rescue situations.

• Combat fires, search for occupants, and rescue those in danger.

• Provide medical assistance, CPR, and first aid.

• Conduct fire safety inspections and enforce regulations.

• Identify potential fire hazards and recommend corrective actions.

• Educate the public on fire prevention, safety, and emergency procedures.

• Maintain firefighting equipment, vehicles, and facilities.

• Complete incident reports and documentation.

• Participate in station maintenance and upkeep.

Physical and Mental Demands:

1. Work in hazardous environments, including extreme temperatures and confined spaces.

2. Lift and carry heavy equipment

3. Wear protective gear, including helmets, masks, and suits.

4. Remain calm and focused in high-stress situations.

Requirements:

• Aged between 18 and 24

• At least five G.C.E. ‘O’ Level subjects at Grade C or better which must include Mathematics, English Language, and Science

• Be physically and medically fit

• Have no criminal record. Fingerprints vetting will be done on successful candidates

• Possession of a Class Two driver’s license will be an added advantage.
