Job Description
The Finance Officer will serve as the technical focal point for financial management and controls, reporting directly to the Finance and Operations Manager. The role will be responsible for overall financial operations, including budget tracking, expenditure monitoring, accurate reporting and cash flow management. The Finance Officer will also support donor and statutory compliance, financial analysis, project financial management and financial risk management.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain NAZ’s SAGA Financial System, ensuring information is accurate, complete and up to date.
- Monitor and review financial systems and procedures and support improvements in financial management and internal controls.
- Manage project funds and process payments.
- Ensure financial transactions are accurately recorded, coded and supported by required documentation.
- Prepare and/or review bank, cash, advance, supplier and other financial reconciliations.
- Liaise with HR, Logistics and Programme Managers on financial systems and processes.
- Support payroll administration, payroll variance analysis and payroll budget tracking.
- Support monthly and annual financial closing processes.
- Maintain appropriate financial controls and adherence to established procedures.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports.
- Manage budgets in line with cash flow projections, finance, procurement and donor guidelines.
- Monitor expenditure against approved organisational and project budgets.
- Analyse variances, forecast expenditure and report on financial performance, risks and emerging issues.
- Support project accounting, management accounts and budgets.

- Identify and escalate financial risks, control weaknesses and significant budget variances.
- Maintain proper financial documentation and archives.
- Support internal and external audits.
- Follow up on agreed audit findings and corrective actions.
- The Finance Officer will comply with all NAZ policies and assist, where necessary, with activities aimed at preventing sexual abuse and exploitation of beneficiaries.
- The role requires strict confidentiality regarding NAZ’s practices and business information acquired during the course of duty.
- The Finance Officer may also be required to manage unforeseen issues and undertake other duties in support of the organisation’s objectives.
Requirements
- Education: BAcc, BCom, BTech degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a recognised equivalent.
- Professional Qualification: Graduate of ACCA, CIMA, ICSA, SAA, IAC or another relevant professional qualification.
- 1-3 years post-qualification experience will be highly relevant.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ previous experience in an NGO in a similar finance position.
- Experience in budgeting, expenditure monitoring, financial reporting, cash flow management and financial analysis.
- Experience in financial controls, reconciliations and audit support.
- Donor Knowledge: Familiarity with grant management and donor-funded programmes.
- Knowledge or experience of specific donor guidelines is an added advantage.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software.
- Familiarity with ODOO ERP and SAGA Financial System is an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Excel.
