Finance Coordinator
Kindernothilfe e.V. (KNH) is a Christian, non-governmental organization founded in 1959 in Germany to support vulnerable and marginalized children and youth with the aim of helping them to develop their full potentials. KNH implements programmes by closely collaborating with local, mostly Christian organisations, to implement 783 projects in 31 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe and Latin America and the Caribbean. KNH implements projects exclusively via local project partners, because it strongly believes in their local expertise and ability to reach out to most vulnerable and marginalized target groups. In Zimbabwe, KNH is currently working with 16 partners that implement different projects in 23 districts.
Kindernothilfe seeks to recruit a part time KNH Finance Coordinator (FC) for Zimbabwe. The FC will be based in Zimbabwe and the anticipated number of working days per year will be approximately between 55-65 days. The FC will work on Consultancy basis for one year, which will be renewed for an extended period based on performance, mutual agreement and availability of funds.
Job summary
The objective of the position of the FC is to ensure that the use of funds at partner and project level is done in an effective and cost-efficient manner in accordance with the agreed objectives, and that there is transparent and comprehensive financial reporting in line with KNH’s mandatory requirements. The FC will focus his/her work on all partners and projects funded by KNH in Zimbabwe. The FC’s key responsibilities and duties will mainly cover the following areas:
1. Provide support to KNH partners and projects with regard to financial management and accounting systems that comply with accountability and anti-corruption principles.
2. Provide support to KNH partners and projects in the preparation and presentation of budgets and financial reports.
3. Provide need-based technical support and building the capacity of KNH partners/projects to improve their financial administration (including during workshops).
4. Attend local and international meetings, as need arises.
5. Report to KNH as per agreed formats and timeframe. And coordinate with the KNH Zimbabwe desk as well as the with the two KNH Zimbabwe in-country representatives on monitoring visits, meetings and their objectives.
Person Specification
In general, the FC requires to utilize a methodical and advanced approach to finance and project financial management and be proactive in his/her communication style. He/she must have essential and desirable requirements as described below:
Essential requirements
A University Degree in Accounting, with a professional qualification required for the field. An MBA in Finance or related field will be an added advantage; At least 7 years of experience in a reputable organization, especially in the NGO sector. Knowledge of working with donor funding will be an added advantage; Strong financial expertise and familiarity with management and accounting practices at senior management level; Proven experience in designing, implementing, and monitoring financial control systems; Demonstrated competency in capacity building in financial management, asset management budgeting and procurement; Good facilitation skills (conducting workshops and onsite capacity development); Considerable skills in office suite, spreadsheets and accounting packages; Willingness to travel more than 50% of the time; Consultancy experience; Good communication (narrative and verbal) and monitoring skills; Excellent past employment record; Team player; Ability to work without supervision and to meet deadlines; A valid Driver’s Licence with at least 3 years experience; Willingness to comply with KNH’s Chid Protection Policy and Anti-Corruption Code.
