Context of the position
Established in 1949, SOS Children’s Villages International (CVI) is a dynamic, international social development organization working globally to meet the needs and protect the interests and rights of children without parental care and those who are at the risk of losing it. SOS Children’s Villages Association of Zimbabwe is a member of SOS International – a worldwide children’s social welfare organisation, providing vulnerable children without homes with a family home and educational opportunities as well as strengthening families to reduce poverty.
Mission of the position
SOS Children’s Villages Zimbabwe has established Community Outreach Programmes around the country. The Programme aims to assist and support children in difficult circumstances, in particular, families headed by a child, a grandparent or by a single parent. The Organisation works as a development partner with communities and local authorities and seeks to address gender issues in these situations. We seek an energetic and organized Field Officer who will be responsible for the delivery of effective and high quality WASH promotion & support to the community in the project intervention sites.
Key performance areas and main responsibilities
Identify and enroll programme beneficiaries who meet the project criteria; Monitor the delivery of project materials to intended beneficiaries; Ensure the inclusion of vulnerable children and women in all aspects of program activities; Develop and support community structures to care and protect children; Ensure the proper dissemination of hygiene and sanitation messages to the community at grass root level; Organizing community level hygiene awareness campaigns and prevention of out breaks; Provide holistic support to the families according to set organisational framework; Establishing community level WASH committees and improving their capacity to manage and control water points; Carry out programme activities according to set systems of internal control; Document programme processes and activities as per set guidelines; Compiling and submitting periodic WASH activities progress reports to Family Strengthening Coordinator and Location Program Manager; Assist in the preparation of simple, sustainable operation and maintenance plans and procedures for implementation and exit strategy at community level; Conscientise beneficiaries and community on children’s rights issues; Establish and maintain a good working relationship with stakeholders, partners and beneficiary families; Provide support to community volunteers.
Requirements
Competencies: Commitment to working with children and youth & knowledge about child rights; Proven strong communication, documentation and networking skills; Project planning and management skills; Monitoring and Evaluation skills; Excellent analytical and report writing skills; Proficiency in using MS office suit and GIS; Experience in running FSL and WASH related community development projects, Experience and knowledge or community engagement, participatory approaches, and sustainability of programme responses and outcomes is a prerequisite; A clean Class 4 and 3 Drivers License; Experience in riding a Motorbike; Fluency in English and at least one local language; Experience in psychosocial support, education, and income generation projects is an added advantage.
Qualifications: B.SC Degree in Public Health/Sanitation/Environmental Health/ Community Health; A minimum of three years’ experience proven experience in implementing mid to large scale community-based water and sanitation project with evidence of successful implementation of similar projects.
