Job Description

As a member of the Shelter and WASH project team, The Field Engineer will be responsible for ensuring quality and progress inspection of all construction projects in assigned locations. The Engineer will also monitor and report on all construction activities in support of Catholic Relief Services’ work. Attention to detail will ensure that the project consistently applies best practices and adheres to construction quality standards and local building codes for the benefit and safety of those we serve. S/he will assist the Project Manager to support CRS partners to implement the program, and help strengthen their capacity in Shelter and WASH facilities construction through training, mentorship and sharing of knowledge and skills

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent field experience. Professional engineering license or active membership of the Institute of Engineers a plus.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in QA/QC, building inspection, or construction management, with a balanced awareness of how to effectively manage contractor performance required.
  • Thorough knowledge of local building codes and design standards
  • Effective inter-personal skills, consensus-building;
  • Planning and organization skills, active listening and analytical approach;
  • Attention to details, accuracy and timeliness in executing assigned responsibilities.
  • Proactive, results-oriented and service-oriented.
  • Creative, highly flexible and able to adapt and improvise when unexpected changes and challenges occur.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook Access– and ideally MS Project).
  • Fluency in English verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to live and work in remote locations and under minimal supervision.
  • Willingness and ability to travel at least 100% to field locations: not centrally-based
