Key Responsibilities

  • Provide visionary leadership and drive long-term strategic planning to position the organization for sustainable growth, enhanced impact, and strengthened visibility.
  • Ensure overall strategic direction aligns programs and operations with the organization’s mission and long-term goals.
  • Lead the development and implementation of multi-year strategic plans that advance organizational sustainability.
  • Align annual work plans and budgets with strategic priorities to ensure coherence across programs and operations.
  • Champion innovation and continuous improvement to maximize organizational impact.
  • Monitor progress against strategic objectives and report to the Board on outcomes and emerging opportunities.
  • Represent the organization at national, regional, and international platforms to strengthen visibility and influence.
  • Lead and manage all technical and operational functions of Bantwana Zimbabwe, with oversight of all programs and projects.
  • Supervise project work planning, budgeting, progress and financial reporting of Bantwana Zimbabwe programs.
  • Utilize an adaptive management approach to assess project performance and quickly adopt and scale cost-effective strategies and activities.
  • Identify project performance and contract issues and lead or support their timely resolution as appropriate.
  • Ensure excellent quality of all project deliverables and judicious use of donor resources.
  • Ensure adherence to all established Standard Operating Procedures for quality programming and management.
  • Ensure all legal requirements for PVOs in Zimbabwe are met.
  • Lead the Bantwana Zimbabwe core team that acts as Secretariat to the Bantwana Regional Network.
  • Lead new business development initiatives for Bantwana Zimbabwe to support strategic organizational growth and sustainability.
  • Proactively implement and periodically update organizational strategic and resource mobilization plans.
  • Develop strategic partnerships and proposals for new business development in Zimbabwe and the region.
  • Encourage innovative programming in the Zimbabwe team and share ideas and resources with other Bantwana country offices in the region.
  • Represent Bantwana Zimbabwe to stakeholders and in public forums, including through formal and informal presentations.
  • Oversee the preparation of periodic reports to the Bantwana Zimbabwe Board of Directors, donors and stakeholders.
  • Ensure high-quality external communications and representations in keeping with the global Bantwana brand.
  • Cultivate a positive and motivating environment for staff at all levels through communication, team building, inclusion, and responsiveness.
  • Serve as the strategic leader of the Bantwana Zimbabwe team.
  • Provide strategic leadership and management of the senior management team in driving the performance and growth of the organisation.

Requirements

  • A Master’s Degree or higher in international development, public health, business administration, social sciences, or a closely related field.
  • 10+ years of experience designing, implementing and managing large-scale projects involving multiple partners, preferably in Zimbabwe and/or the region, of which at least 5 years should have been spent in a senior executive role.
  • Experience with OVC, child protection/welfare, HIV prevention programming, systems strengthening, capacity building, economic strengthening, quality improvement, or policy development.
  • Prior experience as an Executive Director is a prerequisite.
  • Excellent leadership qualities, in-depth technical and management expertise, with demonstrated credibility as an Executive Director/Country Lead/Country Representative.
  • Experience interacting with government agencies and officials and international donor agencies.
  • Excellent writing and oral presentation skills in English; additional languages such as Shona or Ndebele are a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Management experience with donor/funder agreements, grants, or contracts.
  • Experience managing teams that cover multiple functions including technical project management, finance and administration, and M&E.
  • Proven track record in resource mobilization, governance, and organizational management.
