Job Summary
The University seeks to recruit a focused; results oriented Executive Dean for the Faculty of The Built Environment which consists of the following Departments: Architecture, Landscape and Urban Design, and Construction Economics Management. The post of Dean is a full-time strategic position to be held for a period of four (4) years in the first instance.
Duties And Responsibilities
Main Responsibilities
The Dean is the chief academic, administrative and financial officer of the Faculty, and will be responsible for:
· research and academic leadership,
· administration and management,
· community outreach,
· innovation and technology transfer,
· income generation and financial management of the Faculty,
· generate external funding for research and teaching.
A proven track record of achievement in the above areas is a must.
Qualifications And Experience
Qualifications
The ideal candidate should possess a post graduate qualification or equivalent in one of the disciplines
offered by the Faculty obtained from an approved institution. A PhD in a relevant discipline will be a
distinct advantage.
Experience
- Be at least at Senior Lecturer Grade (or have credentials that would qualify the candidate for appointment at that level);
· A proven track record of success in academic and administrative leadership.
· Evidence of experience or participation in applied research that seeks to solve real life problems, innovation and technology transfer.
Skills and Attributes
- Demonstrated ability to lead and work in a team;
· Proven commitment to academic excellence and collaboration across disciplines;
· Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with students, academic staff, administrators and external constituencies;
· Demonstrated ability to forge partnerships and garner support from business and community constituencies leading to industrial attachment and employment opportunities for students, as well as business development.
